ENGLISH as an ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSIONS
The English as an Additional Language program at AES is designed to support students in Grades 1-10. Applicants for Grades 1-12 for whom English is not the first language, whose school records indicate that they have been studying English as an Additional Language(EAL) or gaining EAL assistance, or who have a bilingual/bicultural background will be required to sit for an English Language Proficiency assessment, which measures an applicant’s communication skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students with an educational background that indicates high academic achievement in an English language school setting and standardized test scores may be exempt from this assessment.
For applicants who meet all other eligibility criteria but who have been identified as requiring EAL services, an English language proficiency assessment is needed to determine whether they can be placed in an available grade level seat. In order to ensure that these students can satisfy the academic requirements and participate to the fullest extent possible in school life
The assessment must be completed at the American Embassy School-New Delhi. An invitation for the English language proficiency assessment is not nor does it imply an offer of acceptance at the American Embassy School.
Students requiring English as an Additional Language (EAL) services will be admitted when space is available in both the EAL program and regular curricular programs and in accordance with priority categories for admission.
