All applicants for Grades 1-12 for whom English is not the first language, whose school records indicate that they have been studying English as a Second Language(ESL) or gaining ESL assistance, or who have a bilingual/bicultural background will be required to sit for an English Language Proficiency assessment, which measures an applicant’s communication skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students with an educational background that indicates high academic achievement in an English language school setting and standardized test scores may be exempt from this assessment.
Once an applicant has been determined admissible, he/she will be invited to sit for an English Proficiency Assessment. A student will not be placed in the wait pool until the English Language Proficiency assessment has been completed.
AES will provide group ESL testing on campus in August, December, and April. The assessment must be completed at the American Embassy School-New Delhi. An invitation for the English Language Proficiency assessment is not nor does it imply an offer of acceptance at the American Embassy School.
Students requiring English as a Second Language (ESL) services will be admitted on a space available basis.
