Welcome to Higher Level IB Math! Are you ready for a course designed to challenge those who are already very good at math? Get ready to meet and exceed that challenge.

This year we are going to study a ton of stuff, while at the same time review all the stuff we did last year: sequences and series, functions and transformations, trigonometry, matrices, complex numbers, vectors, combinatorics, probability, and differential calculus.

There is also the 'option' topic, which for us is the calculus you get in the second semester of university (a.k.a. Calc II). Paper 3 of your examination will be dovoted to these topics, which include convergence of infinite series, differential equations and power series.

As a whole, you will be challenged to go beyond knowing how to simply do a math problem. Rather, you will need to think your way through problems that are unfamiliar, yet require the mathematics we study. You will need to understand concepts and not simply memorize procedures, and tests will not be exactly like the homework. Your job is to know your concepts so well that you can read a new and different situation, recognize the underlying mathematical principles, and apply the appropriate techniques to achieve the desired result.

If you like math, you are in for a treat.

And will you succeed? YES! You will indeed! 98¾ percent guaranteed.  - Dr. Suess
