AES is committed to educating students to become responsible global citizens. Service is an essential learning experience in meeting that commitment. We teach students the skills and knowledge needed, encourage participation and logistically support students in service projects. Ultimately we hope this experience will instill a lifelong value of service to the community, the environment, or the world.

Community service at AES will support student involvement in service projects that are characterized by the following attributes:

• fulfill a genuine need for the recipients and can be sustained over time
• provide the opportunity to create mutual trust, respect and joy among all participating while leading to self-reliance for the beneficiaries.
• offer students opportunities for learning leadership and advocacy skills as well as the critical thinking needed to solve the complex issues the world faces.
• will leave students believing that they can make a positive difference.
